BlenderArtist.org has opened it's doors for a preview of what's to come.

BlenderArtists.org is the new name for elYsiun.com, not only do we want to introduce this new name but also a lot of new services for the Blender community. We hope to promote Blender by showing its capabilities, help new users to learn the basics of Blender and provide a means for Blender users to communicate and interact with each other.

Timothy presents this plan for the change-over to BlenderArtists.org on the site, and there's a more detailed version of it in as a PDF document. In a nutshell [although I suggest you read the PDF]:

Blender Artists should provide a variety of community services for Blender users. We hope to promote Blender by showing its capabilities, help new users to learn the basics of Blender and provide a means for Blender users to communicate and interact with each other. Concretely this comes down to offering services such as, news, tutorials, forums, and galleries.

This has been due for a long time, and a lot credit and thanks should go out to Timothy and the rest of his support team for making it happen. It's no easy thing to setup services like this for a community as large and varied as Blender's.
